Staffing and Hiring

We recommend a minimum of two people on site for every 50 or so bikes to be parked. Having only one staff member on a valet, regardless of the number of bikes, makes staff breaks and unexpected eventualities challenging. Anything over 250 bikes should have an additional staff member for each 100 bikes, with variable staffing to accommodate known peaks and troughs in use.

The complete Bike Valet toolkit contains 3 sample role descriptions to support staff selection and management. These are templates and of course should be adapted to each organization’s needs, goals, and constraints. 

All valet staff should be prepared to spend a lot of time walking, standing and lifting weights up to 20kg, and be comfortable recording and collecting data, as well as engaging with the public.
